Cork Maintenance Guide

Protection:

  • Some solvents, waxes, or cosmetic products can cause staining which are impossible to remove. Your floor should be protected against these products.
  • Never use a mat with latex or rubber backing, because these can stain the floor.
  • In the case of furniture or chairs that can scratch, damage or dent the wear layer, put furniture guards or felt (not rubber) on the leg ends of the furniture.
  • It is not advisable to clean the floor with water washing Industrial machines.
  • For maintenance of your new cork floors use the products and tools that the manufacturer recommend.
  • Never use solvent-based or abrasive cleaning products, these can cause irreparable damage to your floor.
  • Never use metallic brushes to sweep your cork floors.
  • Protect the transitions using our profiles.
  • Furniture castors must have a proportional width to the weight they support.
  • Do not drag furniture over the floor.
  • We suggest using a good quality doormat at all entrances.
  • Cork contains organic pigments in its chemical composition, for this reason it is normal for it to fade when exposed to light.
  • Cork is a natural product and shading will vary from tile to tile and between catalogues and samples.
  • It is advisable, before installation, to spread the tiles over the surface in order to obtain the most pleasing blend of shades.

Maintenance:

  • Frequency of maintenance depends on your traffic.
  • To guarantee the long life and natural beauty of your floor, you should use only manufacturer recommended cleaning products.
  • For light cleaning use a damp sponge mop rinsed in warm water and soap.
  • To prevent dirt and scuffing in entrance areas use a mat – do not use rubber, latex or coco-fibre backed mats.
  • In all situations you must avoid excess moisture on the floor.
  • For a more thorough cleaning apply cork finish remover (different for each manufacturer) and let it work for a few minutes.
  • Brush the floor quickly in sections with cleaning pads, manually or with the help of a buffing machine.
  • The floor will now have a dull appearance. Rinse the floor with water, always using a slightly damp mop.
  • Now you are ready – reapply a coat of finish (different for each manufacturer).
  • This procedure can be done on your own or contact your store representative for professional assistance.
